FORT FAIRFIELD (AP) – Officials confirmed Friday that a child’s body found at a dam in New Brunswick this week is that of a 3-year-old Fort Fairfield girl who went missing more than eight weeks ago.

Fort Fairfield Police Chief Joe Bubar said that the body has been positively identified as Alexandria Winship-Wright. The girl disappeared from her Fort Fairfield residence on April 25 and apparently fell into the fast-moving Aroostook River, which flows into Canada.

The girl’s identity was confirmed by comparing a DNA sample form the body to DNA samples from her parents, Bubar said.
