NEWPORT – Sean Cheetham pitched five innings to earn the victory and cranked five hits to lead the White Sox past Goody’s Guys, 6-3, at Nokomis High School in Men’s Senior League baseball.

Dan Coleman picked up the save for the Sox (4-1).

Cheetham scored on a wild pitch after hitting a one-out triple in the first. Gary Morin and Bryan Smith each slapped an RBI single to give Goody’s (0-4) a 2-1 lead in the second, but Coleman clouted a two-run double in the third to retrieve the lead for keeps. The Sox made it 4-2 on a fielder’s choice in the fourth. Cheetham’s RBI double increased the advantage in the sixth. Later in the innings, Steve Labossiere trotted home on a dropped third strike. Brody McKenney plated a run for Goody’s with a double in the seventh. Justin Ladd was the lone repeat hitter for Goody’s. Coleman and Jamie Lobb tallied two hits apiece for the White Sox.

Red Sox 8, Rockies 4

Torey Carr worked through some shoulder stiffness and pitched six effective innings Sunday, allowing six hits and striking out eight, to improve to 3-0 in Augusta’s 8-4 men’s senior baseball win over Fairfield.

Carr’s defense bailed him out of two jams by way of the double-play ball. Jim Morris and Eric Palleschi provided the relief for the Red Sox. Palleschi coaxed two fly outs and fanned Chris Luckem to end the game after allowing the first four batters to reach base in the ninth.

Offensively, 51-year-old Dave Wilson led the Sox with two clutch hits and two RBI. David Ricker also connected for a pair of hits and knocked in a run.

The Rockies’ top hitters were Stuart Jump with a double and two singles, and Jared Lancaster and Randy Brodeur with a triple and a single each. Pete Kirby and Ryan Johnson were also repeat hitters for the Rockies.

The Red Sox host the Topsham Knights at Winthrop High School next Sunday, while the Rockies host the Kennebec Indians at Keyes Field in Fairfield.
