SOUTH PARIS – Four pitchers combined to allow just one run on seven hits over 14 innings to lead Bessey Motors to sweep of its double-header against Brunswick on Saturday. Bessey won Game 1, 4-0, and cruised to a 6-1 win in Game 2.

Ben Ryerson went the distance in Game 1 for Bessey Motors. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out four Brunswick hitters. On offense, Justin Frechette hit an RBI single in the first inning, Dillon Trundy followed with an RBI single in the second, and Ryan Yates brought two runs home with a single in the fifth.

In Game 2, Yates took the hill and earned the win, allowing just one hit and Brunswick’s one run in four innings of work. Evan Humphrey relieved Yates in the fifth, and Matt Rolfe finished out the seventh.

After Bessey managed one run in the first, Brunswick rallied for one in the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, though, Bessey plated four runs.

Nigel Cromwell hit an RBI single, Dan Millett scored on an error and Cromwell came across on a wild pitch. Ethan Sutton scampered home later in the inning on a botched pick-off attempt.

Tony Viola of Brunswick hit the only extra-base hit of the day in the second game.

Smith-Tobey 8-4, New Auburn 7-13

AUBURN – Adam Redmun belted a home run and drove in three RBIs in the night cap as New Auburn salvaged a split of its doubleheader by defeating Smith-Tobey 13-4. Smith-Tobey won the opener 8-7.

Redmun’s first four bagger of the season was a solo shot to right-centerfield in the second as New Auburn (6-3) led 10-2 after three innings to support starting pitcher Adam Lutz (2-0).

Lutz and Jake Marcum combined to scatter 10 hits. Lutz helped his cause by rapping a double among his three hits. Carl Bussiere added three RBIs. Steve May (0-1) suffered the loss.

May hit a grand slam in the opener as Smith-Tobey (3-6) shot out to an 8-0 lead off Marcum (0-1) and three relievers. New Auburn came up with six runs in the third highlighted by a two-run double by Bussiere and a single by Derek Doucette that drove in a pair of runs.

Jarrod Erdmann entered in the sixth inning and shut New Auburn down to pick up the save.
