Roberta Muse was gravely concerned about how the school consolidation issue would affect the three school districts in her rural area, so she co-authored a plan.

With Rep. David Farrington, D-Gorham, a fellow member of the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee, she crafted an amendment stressing smaller district sizes, a longer time frame for implementation and the survival of school unions. The two representatives took the plan to the Rural Caucus, and later portions of it were fused into the final product, which was “much closer to what we asked for,” Muse said.

Apart from her committee work, three bills Muse submitted passed, and of those two were hyper-local to her district. One directs the director of the Bureau of Parks and Lands to develop a consistent plan for managing recreation on the Saco River. Another authorized the Fryeburg Water District to purchase assets in East Conway, N.H.

She also sponsored a bill establishing a committee to find ways to promote alternative schools within districts.
