WINTHROP – A trio of West Paris pitchers shut down the Augusta Red Sox bats in a 9-2 men’s senior baseball thumping Sunday.

Rick Whitney, Mike Godin and Mark Hreben were in complete control, striking out 11 and scattering six hits in the contest. Whitney earned the win.

The Westies (4-3) took advantage of their opportunities on the offensive side. Hreben led the way with an RBI double, single and two runs scored. Mike McBride and Jim Ryerson each added a double, while Wes Smith smacked a pair of hits.

Brett Witherell led the Sox (5-2) with a double and single. Bob Cochran also singled twice.

West Paris hosts the Kennebec Indians next Sunday at Perham Field in West Paris, while the Red Sox play the Central Maine Green Wave under the lights Friday night at Hippach Field in Farmington.
