KINGFIELD – Tammy Goldfrank laughs just thinking about what’s in store for people during the upcoming Kingfield Days that begin with a cribbage tournament Thursday night and end with the Moose Creek Cloggers’ performance Sunday.

There will be music performances, lots of food, and a grand parade among the many events planned.

“The weekend is huge,” said Goldfrank, who is in her second year as head organizer of the celebration. What makes it so much bigger this year is they have more money to spend and more people helping out, she added.

An estimated 5,000 people attended last year and organizers are hoping to top that this year.

This year’s theme is “Four seasons of Maine Mountain Living.”

There will be a New Year’s Party picking up on the winter theme Friday at Longfellow’s Restaurant, Goldfrank’s establishment, she said.

One of the events she expects to be hilarious, she said, is the Deal or No Deal! game at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the stage that will be set up in the center of town at Camden National Bank.

“It’s going to be so funny,” Goldfrank said.

Postmistress Sue Jones has 15 business representatives lined up to hold briefcases during the game.

Neal Tranten is going take on the role of Howie Mandell, who is the real host of the televised game show.

Another fun event, she said, will be the Amazing Kingfield Race. It was a highlight last year. The first three events of the race start at 6:30 p.m. Friday, beginning at the stage, following the crowning of Mrs. Kingfield. Race events will run through the finale on Sunday.

Ten teams of two are needed with one member under age 18 and the other one 18 or older. Registration is required.

“It’s so cool,” Goldfrank said. “It was one of the funniest things last year.”

The teams show up at a certain time not knowing what they’ll have to do.

Last year, one event was the frozen T-shirt contest where the shirts were soaked and then frozen for days. Teams had to open up the frozen shirts and then had to put them on, she said.

There is a $200 prize for first place, $100 prize for second place.

Other big events include Saturday’s Kingfield Days Grand Parade with float line-up at Narrow Gauge Park at 11 a.m. with step-off at noon.

Antique cars are invited to participate in the parade and then go on display at Knapp’s parking lot for judging.

This will be the second year of a bed race at 1:30 p.m. Saturday on Depot Street, and Goldfrank’s hoping more people participate this year than last year, where there was one team entry. Five people are required with one of them on the bed to compete for the fastest time and best decorated, she said.

At 1 p.m. Sunday, there will be a “Bring out your Best” cook-off. People may enter their favorite dish in five categories: salads, casseroles, from the grill, desserts and miscellaneous. The dishes will then be sampled and judged by those in attendance.

“This is a big time for Kingfield,” Goldfrank said.
