LEWISTON – More than half of this year’s Junior volunteer program at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center are veterans of the program, with 16 of the 27 youths returning for their second, third and, in some cases, fourth year.

“I think that number says a lot about our program,” said Patrick Williams, director of volunteers. “Clearly the kids get as much out of their volunteer work as we do.”

This summer’s program began with a daylong orientation on June 26 and actual volunteering began the next day.

Most of the students will be volunteering through Aug. 24, representing 11 area schools and grades seven through 12.

For more information about the program, contact Kathleen Kuritz in the volunteer services office at 777-8368.
