LEWISTON – 20-M Club of Lewiston went unbeaten in capturing the Maine Men’s Slow Pitch Class D Championship last weekend.

20-M defeated Maine Fire Equipment Company of Waterville in the title contest, 12-7.

Outfielders Jimmy Davis, Steve Curtis, Rob Bernier, Todd Therrien and Mike Bays made fine defensive plays during the tourney. Infielders Keith Proto, Mike Connecelli, Mike Reil, Ron Nadeau, Bob Norton and Keith West also performed well. Chris Bickford hurled all 7 games.

There were 38 teams in the tourney. Following are the top 10 finishers: 1. 20-M Club, 7-0; 2. Maine Fire Protection, 5-2; 3. Gravin Rayz, Bangor, 6-2; 4. Richmond Merchants, 4-2; 5. Crusher Claws, Ellsworth, 5-2; 6. Bada Bing/Fish House Grill, Gouldsboro, 3-2; 7. Buck Construction, Presque Isle, 4-2; 8. Miller Ford, Waterboro, 4-2; 9. Ruby’s/Sam Adams, York, 3-2; 10. Bee-Jays Tavern, Caribou/Presque Isle, and Brewhaha’s, Waterville, 2-2.

Carlton Club of Lewiston finished 12th with a 3-2 mark; Interstate Batteries of Auburn was tied for 16th, along with Major Automotive of Auburn, 2-2; Lincoln Street Radiator of the Auburn Players League finished in a tie for 24th, 1-2; Varsity Lettering of Lewiston wound up 1-2; and L-A Harley of Lewiston dropped 2 in a row.

The top 10 finishers have been invited to the National Class D Tournament set for August 30 to Sept. 3 at Salem, Va.
