FARMINGTON – SAD 9 directors voted Tuesday to raise full-pay student lunch prices by 10 cents and breakfast prices by 5 cents for the coming school year. Adult meals were increased by 25 cents.

The measure increases full-pay lunches in kindergarten through sixth grade to $1.45 and breakfasts to 70 cents.

In grades seven through 12 at the middle and high schools, the full-pay lunch price increases to $1.70 and breakfast to 80 cents.

Adults’ meals at all levels will cost $3.25.

Reduced lunch and breakfast prices will stay the same at 40 cents and 30 cents, respectively.

In other matters, according to draft minutes of Tuesday’s meeting, SAD 9 Chairman Ray Glass of Farmington was re-elected to the post. Vice Chairwoman Charisse Keach of Chesterville was also re-elected.

Elected to the board’s Finance Committee were Yvette Robinson of Farmington, Ted Ellis of New Vineyard and Keach.

Directors also unanimously approved Superintendent Michael Cormier’s nomination of Alyce Cavanaugh as the district health coordinator.

The board also voted 11-1, with Jo Josephson of Temple opposed, to re-align the half-time math teaching position at the high school.

According to a memo to Cormier from school Principal Joe Moore, Moore recommended the half-time position be eliminated and recommended the teacher in the position, Matt Allen of Wilton, be transferred to the vacant full-time math teaching position at the high school.

He also requested that some of the cost savings from the elimination of the half-time position be used to create a part-time education technician III position at the school to work 20 hours a week.

“This ed tech III will supervise the delivery of lessons in some of our newly created learning labs in the core subjects of math, English, science and social studies,” Moore wrote. “This will allow us to actually offer more learning labs for our students, which will be designed for credit recovery and academic assistance.

“The cost savings to the district will be about $5,000, and we will still be able to offer strong academic support to some of our most needy students.”

The board unanimously approved the transfer of Allen from a half-time math teaching position to a full-time position at the high school.
