WOODSTOCK – After opening a portion of Concord Pond Road to ATV traffic last summer, selectmen on Tuesday expanded ATV use on the rest of the road to the Milton town line.

The action came after Concord Pond camp owner Bill Waite requested it, and Concord Pond Camp Owners Association officer Bill Dolloff agreed.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield stated there had been no problems with ATVs being driven on the road.

“Everything seems to have been fine since people began to use that portion of the road, and I don’t believe there will be any problem if we extend the opening to ATV traffic the rest of the way to Milton. If people ride their machines properly, and so far they seem to be, there shouldn’t be any problem,” Maxfield said.

ATV riders want to use the road to connect ATV trails through Bethel and back into Woodstock, to access Bryant Pond Village from the Concord Pond area.

The board also authorized Maxfield to look into developing a health and safety ordinance to better control problems with waste. Old gas cans, solid waste and tires are often found tossed in wooded areas and around some homes.
