BETHEL – Steve Abbott, chief of staff for U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, was the featured speaker at the annual picnic of the Oxford County Republican Committee on July 10 at the home of Republican State Committeeman Stan Howe, Broad Street.
Following a barbecued dinner attended by more than 60 Republicans and sponsored by the Bethel Republican Town Committee, Abbott was introduced by Howe, who noted Abbott’s Rumford roots.
In his remarks, Abbott provided insights into a number of issues facing the U.S. Senate and Maine’s junior senator.
Following the speaker’s presentation, there was a brief business meeting during which State Committeewoman Becky Kendall of Bethel reported on the caucus committee meeting held recently at the state committee headquarters in Augusta.
The next meeting was announced for Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds.
