BUCKSPORT – Six pitchers combined for a no-hitter as the Elliot Avenue 13-14 All-Stars routed Sacopee Valley 18-0 on the opening day of the Maine Senior Little League championships.

Pitcher Joe Sullivan started the game and was followed by five relievers, who all pitched just one inning in the six-inning contest.

Mekae Hyde led the way with two triple and a single, and he drove in five runs. Alex Parker and Scott Ouellette chipped in with three singles each, while Corbin Hyde added a pair of singles.

The District 5 champs from Lewiston return to action Wednesday against the winner of South Portland and Bucksport at 1:30 p.m.

Bessey 9, Smith-Tobey 1

TOPSHAM – Ben Goodall fired a three-hitter and struck out nine batters to lead Bessey Motors to a 9-1 triumph over Smith-Tobey in Zone III American Legion baseball action Sunday.

Jake Fillebrown and Russ Estes led the way with a pair of two-run singles in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, for Bessey (13-6), which finishes the regular season today at Gray.
