PORTLAND (AP) – The Maine Democratic Party announced Monday that the insurgent who upset Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman in last year’s Democratic primary but lost to him in the general election will be the special guest at this year’s Edmund S. Muskie Lobster Bake.
Joining Ned Lamont will be Maine’s top Democrats, including Gov. John Baldacci and U.S. Reps. Tom Allen and Mike Michaud. The Aug. 18 fundraiser is being held in Hancock County, at Lamoine State Park.
Although elected last year as an independent, Lieberman caucuses with Senate Democrats. It was his vote that gave the party a narrow majority in the Senate. He is also closely allied with Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins.
, who campaigned on his behalf. Lieberman returned the favor by raising money for Collins, whose re-election next year is being challenged by Allen.
