The Maine State Ballet Theater celebrates its grand opening Friday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. featuring two premieres for the company, “The Firebird” and “Paquita.”

“The Firebird” is a Russian fairy tale about a mysterious red bird, set to the dynamic music of Igor Stravinsky.

“Paquita” is a classical favorite with a Spanish flair. Rounding out the evening is the scherzo from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

All three pieces are staged by Maine State Ballet Artistic Director and former New York City Ballet dancer, Linda MacArthur Miele.

Maine State Ballet will perform “The Firebird” and “Paquita” on three consecutive Friday nights, Aug. 3, 10 and 17 at 7 p.m. at the Maine State Ballet Theater on Route 1 in Falmouth. Tickets are on sale now for $15 through the Maine State Ballet Box Office at 781-7672.

Maine State Ballet’s Adopt-a-dancer Summer Gala is Saturday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. This benefit funds Maine State Ballet’s scholarship program which supports dancers by covering tuition and pointe shoe costs. The Gala program will include the pas de deux from “Paquita” and Maine State Ballet’s “Britten,” as well as Maine State Ballet’s four movement signature piece, Souvenir.
