WINTHROP – Goody’s Guys notched their first win of the season in the Men’s Senior Baseball League, snagging the second half of a doubleheader from the Red Sox, 8-7, with only eight players.

With the game tied 5-5 in the sixth, Goody’s loaded the bases with one out and received RBI singles from Gary Morin and Jeremy Bragg with a drawn-in infield to take an 8-5 lead going into the seventh inning.

The Red Sox won the first of the twinbill, 7-4. With the Sox leading 6-1, Goody’s batted around in the fifth inning to make the score 6-4 on an RBI double by Brody McKenney and an error that allowed two more runs to score.

But the Sox scored one in the bottom of the frame and held on for the victory.

Goody’s Guys pounded Red Sox pitching for 17 hits in the two games, led by Joe Levesque with four hits, including a double.

Other repeat hitters for the Goody’s were McKenney, Morin, and Bragg with three hit each, while Ryan White and Dave Duncombe added two apiece.

Red Sox repeat hitters were Josh Nichols, Matt Richardson and John Bourque with two hits each. Winning pitchers were Torey Carr for the Sox and Gary Morin for Goody’s Guys.

Goody’s hosts the Boothbay Dodgers next week at Nokomis High School in Newport.
