POWNAL – MaineShare, which provides funding to more than 30 progressive statewide nonprofits, will hold its 16th annual Hike and Bike fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 9, at Bradbury Mountain State Park.
The event offers something for all levels of fitness, with the opportunity to go on a 3K or 8K hike in the park or on four bike rides.
Cloe Chunn will lead the 8K hike. Chunn, a registered Maine Guide, is an avid backpacker and hiker and author of the book, “Fifty Hikes in the Maine Mountains.” She has been a teacher of backpacking and sea kayaking for the University of Maine, has taught and lived in India and Antarctica and worked for the Audubon Expedition Institute, traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Cyclists will have the chance to choose from a 25K, 50K or 100K bike route. The rides are complete with sag wagons and rest stops. The 25K rest stop includes a tour of New Leaf Organic Farm in Durham.
The 50K ride will be led by Bill Yeo, who has organized, planned and led dozens of expeditions over the last 20 years. Recently, Yeo returned from an attempt on the North Ridge of Everest with stunning images and video.
The 100K ride will be led by Bicycle Coalition of Maine’s Executive Director Jeff Miller.
Bikers and hikers will return to a buffet lunch with live music. Prizes and raffles will be offered for all levels of fundraising.
