CARRABASSETT VALLEY – The Second Annual Carrabassett Summer Festival, featuring an art show, live music and a fly-in, will be held Saturday, Aug. 18. The free event will be held on Route 27 directly behind the Carrabassett Inn.
The juried art show, with demonstrations, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at KC’s Kreativity Center. Included will be paintings, sculpture, a book artist, Adirondack chairs, blown glass and quilts created by 120 local Maine artists.
PICT, Joel Cage and Jay McClure will play rock and pop sounds for dancing and listening pleasure. They will perform on the stage at KC’s Kreativity Center. Other bands include local musician Jay McClure and Joel Cage, a New York guitar artist who has been playing the area over the summer.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Choices include a chicken barbecue catered by Judson’s on a smoker, homemade chocolate fudge beer, wine and sodas.
The Jud Strunk & Dick Ayotte Memorial Fly-in, including about 15 planes, will be at The Sugarloaf Regional Airport, if the weather is good. B21 will provide Radio Control Club demonstrations. Dick Lahaye, club president, has lifelong experience in aviation.
Art student displays will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at KC’s Kreativity Center. Richard Lee of Richmond, well-known paper artist, will have a display.
There will be a 50/50 raffle and silent auction featuring rounds of golf at Sugarloaf and guided adventure trips to benefit the Ayotte Scholarship Fund, which helps area children pay for skiing and competitions.
