Dear Sun Spots: Museum L-A is looking to add to its collection documenting the opening of Portraits and Voices: Workers of Seven Mills. We would appreciate donations of photographs and videos taken during the event – especially those showing generations of families together. If you have something to donate, please contact us at 333-3881. – Susan Beane, archivist, Museum L-A, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: This is in response to the Friday, Aug. 3, column, where Sun Spots noted that the program was “not taking furniture.” I need to rectify this statement. Loaves and Fishes is very happy to receive good furniture, which turns out to be very handy for the less fortunate among us. However, sometimes space is limited, and certainly too often it is impossible to pick up the items. Right now, Loaves and Fishes has in storage the following: two sofa beds, a recliner chair, an entertainment center, a twin bed, a bureau with matching dresser, a footstool, an electric stove, kitchen items, dishes and miscellaneous items. If anyone is in need of these please call Ellie at 375-4747. Likewise, always check with her before delivering anything to make sure that space is available to accommodate.
Sincere thanks go to all those who donate to our summer Saturday garage sales at the convent, and to those who have come to make purchases. For those who have not yet come, you should know that there are a lot of things to choose from. The garage sale at 61 Lisbon Road in Sabattus will remain open every Saturday in August from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thank you, Sun Spots, for your gracious support. – Sister Lucille Fournier, Sabattus.
Dear Sun Spots: My question is about Jaleel White who played Steve Erkle on “Family Matters.” Is he still alive? Willard Jackson, Lewiston.
Answer: Sun Spots has found several references to him online as well as mentions of his death being a ‘rumour, hoax’.
I want my son to sit down with the president so he can explain to him what it is like, so that he can decide if that is what he wants to really do. Maybe you know someone who can help us make that happen. I want my son to be more than “a bubble in the mud puddle of life.”
I hope that you can publish my letter and let us know what we can do. We even went to Washington, D.C. three years ago, hoping to see him. Got another letter that he was too busy. Thank you for your time. God Bless. – Penny L. Haslett, No Town.
Answer: Sun Spots is sure you can understand how difficult it would be for the president to meet one-on-one with all those in the general public who would like to do so, but you might contact your congressional delegation to see what could be done. In addition, perhaps your son might check with his teacher to see what he should be studying to try and meet his goal.
