WINTHROP – The Augusta Red Sox grabbed the American League pennant in the Central Maine Men’s Senior Baseball League Sunday with a 10-4 victory over the Boothbay Dodgers at Winthrop High School. The Sox won the crown with a 9-5 record. The Dodgers finished second with a 7-8 mark.

Trailing 3-0 in the second, the Sox cut the gap to 1 on a 2-out, 2-run single by Torey Carr, then took the lead in the sixth. Bob Cochran drilled a 2-out double and scored on a Brett Witherell single. The Sox put the game away for good with 6 runs in the 7th. Joe Wilson had a key RBI hit.

Carr got the pitching win with relief help from Jim Morris. Bob Bowie suffered the loss.

Wilson was the top stick for the winners, whacking 3 hits. Witherell, Mike House and Eric Palleschi all added a pair of safeties. Hank Ogilby was a repeat hitter for the Dodgers. Dave Daigle belted a double.
