RUMFORD – Evelyn G. Tate, 85, of Pine Street, Mexico, died Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Rumford Community Home.

She was born in Rumford, on Aug. 24, 1922, a daughter of Walter and Catherine (Gaudet) Gerrier.

She was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate and salutatorian of Stephens High School, Class of 1940.

She was employed for many years by Thomas Dickson Logging Co. and Boise Cascade.

She married Joseph F. Tate Sr. on Dec. 10, 1945, and together they celebrated 46 years of marriage. They enjoyed square dancing, skiing, hiking, and trips to Daytona, Fla. She also enjoyed reading, knitting and blueberry picking.

She was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church; and a member of the Mothercraft Club, Daughters of Isabella and the Sons of Italy.

She is survived by a daughter, Judith Vienneau, and husband, Larry, of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Joseph F. Tate Jr., and wife, Linda, of Rumford and David L. Tate of North Port, Fla.; a sister, Bertha Horne of Dixfield; a brother, Eugene Gerrier of Toledo, Ohio; sister-in-law, Barbara Gerrier of Mexico; and two grandchildren, Andrea Vienneau of Falmouth and Arthur Tate of Rumford.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Joseph F. Tate Sr.; a sister, Edna Hedger; and three brothers, Arthur Gerrier, Edward Gerrier and Wilfred Gerrier.
