AUBURN – Junior Katelyn St. Hilaire converted on a penalty kick with 2:01 left in the first half for the game’s lone golas as Edward Little defeated Morse 1-0 in KVAC girls’ soccer action.

After an EL player was taken down inside the box, St. Hilaire made the most of the opportunity.

Kirsten Prue made five saves for the Red Eddies. Jill Henrickson turned away 16 shots in the loss.

Brunswick 4, Leavitt 0

TURNER – Hilary Champagne and Rebekka Miller each scored a goal and earned an assist as Brunswick cruised to a 4-0 victory over Leavitt in a girls’ soccer opener Friday.

The Dragons scored three goals in the first half and added one in the second. Lucy Morrell also scored, and Miller punched in her second goal unassisted.

Brunswick outshot Leavitt, 19-7.

Belfast 1, Oak Hill 0

WALES – Whitney Cross scored over the goalie’s head from the top of the box less than five minutes into the game, and Belfast held off several Oak Hill scoring opportunities for a 1-0 girls’ soccer triumph.

The Raiders best opportunity came with 10 minutes to play when freshman Abby Goulet broke in alone on Belfast goalie Laura Small, but her shot went wide.

Small finished with 13 saves, while Oak Hill’s Maggie Sabine made 10 stops.

Cony 4, Oxford Hills 3

SOUTH PARIS – Chelsea Arbour scored the game-winning goal with 20 minutes remaining as Cony edged Oxford Hills 4-3 in KVAC girls’ soccer action Friday.

The Rams (1-0) scored first, but the Vikings (0-1) took a 2-1 lead before the half. The game continued to go back-and-forth until Arbour’s final tally.

Emmy-Lou Blake led the offense for Oxford Hills with a pair of goals.

Poland 0, Traip 0 (2OT)

KITTERY – Despite opportunities throughout the game, Poland was unable to convert one into a score as the Knights played Traip Academy to a 0-0 tie.

Poland’s defense limited Traip in regulation and a pair of five-minute overtimes, while senior netminder Paige Piper stopped all five shots she faced. Austen Taylor turned away all 11 shots she saw for Traip.

Maranacook 4, MCI 1

READFIELD – It took 36 seconds for Maranacook to tally its first goal of the season. The Black Bears added three more in the first half for a 4-1 victory over MCI on Friday in girls’ soccer action.

Amanda Findley pushed across the first goal following a penalty kick by Maren Pedersen to put the Black Bears up 2-0. Amanda Asaro kicked in a score for MCI to cut the lead in half. Ashely Whittemore and Alyssa Neptune rounded out the scoring. Neptune also added an assist.

Lake Region 3, St. Dom’s 2

BRIDGTON – Renee Nicholas scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner with 1:51 left in the first half, as Lake Region grabbed a 3-2 triumph from St. Dom’s in WMC girls’ soccer action Friday.

The Saints (0-1) attempted a comeback in the second half with a pair of tallies, but ran out of time. Jessica Chamberlain and Ali Desjardins provided the Saints with a goal.

Field hockey
Jay 6, Boothbay 1

JAY – Katie Nemi scored three goals and Katie Hall added a goal and a pair of assists to power Jay to a 6-1 field hockey victory over Boothbay in the season opener.

The Tigers took control by scoring when Shayna Meserve, Hall and Nemi scored in the game’s opening 2:45. Bryndi Richards also scored for Jay.

Amy Hodgdon scored Boothbay’s lone goal in the second half.

Telstar 8, Livermore Falls 1

BETHEL – Senior forward Josie Reiss and junior center forward Whitney Mills scored a hat trick each to lead Telstar to a bruising 8-1 victory over Livermore Falls in MVC field hockey action Friday afternoon.

Whitney McDaniel scored the only Andies’ goal a minute-and-a-half into the contest. The Rebels (1-0) responded to the wake up call with six unanswered first-half goals.

Telstar also controlled most of the action as nine returning seniors established a fast-paced offense.

Oxford Hills 3, Brunswick 2

BRUNSWICK – Kristy Jurczak scooted across the field to the left side and broke a 2-2 tie with 9:21 remaining to give Oxford Hills a 3-2 victory over Brunswick.

Teira Durgin got the Vikings rolling with an early goal, and Laura Rand tied the game with one-second remaining in the first half to give the Vikings (1-0) a much needed boost.

Liz Eichinger and Caroline Geoghegan each scored a goal for the Dragons (0-1).

Aleksys Pike turned aside six shots in the win.

Leavitt 10, Lincoln 0

NEWCASTLE – Leavitt jumped out to 4-0 halftime lead and added six more goals en-route to a 10-0 blanking of Lincoln Academy.

Courtney Erskine opened the scoring with a first-half goal and later assisted on a pair of other scores.

MyKayla McCann netted three goals, while Megan Miller added a pair for the Hornets. Rachel Doiron, Emily Murphy, Jenn Vallee, and Taylor MacLean rounded out the scoring in the victory.

Leavitt outshot Lincoln Academy 45-0.
