TOPSHAM – Ally Butler nailed the game-winning goal with 3:21 left in overtime to lift Edward Little to an exciting 2-1 season-opening win over Mt. Ararat in KVAC field hockey action Saturday.

Jess Campbell put the Red Eddies (1-0) up 1-0 on a first half goal. But the Eagles (0-1) were not going to let Edward Little get away with such an easy win as Sami Brooks tied the game with a 42 seconds remaining in regulation.

Lawrence 3, Lewiston 0

LEWISTON – Katie Robinson scored a pair of goals to lead Lawrence to a 3-0 field hockey victory over Lewiston in a KVAC season opener.

Lewiston outshot the Bulldogs, 19-13, and enjoyed an 11-10 advantage in penalty corners, but could not slip the ball past goalie Jen Carter. Emily Craig made 10 saves and Kirstie Acker had five in the Lewiston net.

Girls’ soccer

Mt. Abram 6, Winthrop 1

SALEM – Maria Parrett scored 16 seconds into the game to jump start Mt. Abram’s five-goal outburst in the first half as the Roadrunners coasted to a 6-1 girls’ soccer triumph over Winthrop.

Parrett finished with three goals, while Emma Coffin had one goal and two assists. Rebecca London and Katie Buschmann also scored for Mt. Abram.

Emma Rice prevented the shutout with a goal with 4:23 to play.

Kenni Norton stopped six shots for Mt. Abram, while Winthrop’s Anna Smithgall made 15 saves.

Mt. Blue 3, Skowhegan 0

SKOWHEGAN – Leigh Ronald kicked the deciding goal early in the contest as Mt. Blue coasted to a 3-0 shutout over Skowhegan in KVAC girls’ soccer action Saturday.

Meredith Allen increased the Cougars’ (1-0) lead to a 2-0 margin before the half on an assist from sister Hannah Allen.

Mt. Blue had a solid defensive game. Goalie Emily Deane made seven stops for the Cougars, while Crystal Johnson turned away 20 shots for the Indians (0-1).

Lisbon 4, Mtn. Valley 1

RUMFORD – Ashley Beaulieu scored three goals, including one in the opening minute, to lead Lisbon to a season-opening 4-1 victory over Mountain Valley.

Beaulieu also assisted on Sierra Guay’s goal eight minutes into the game.

Terissa Ridge scored the lone goal for the Falcons with 14 minutes remaining.

Samantha Purcell stopped six shots for Lisbon, while Karri McPherson made five saves.

Rangeley 2, Vinalhaven 0

RANGELEY – Taylor Gellman and Samantha Olivieri each scored a goal as the Lakers slipped away with a 2-0 victory over Vinalhaven in a girls’ soccer game Saturday.

The Lakers scored a goal in each half, and their goalie, Krista Jamison, made 25 saves.

In Friday’s game, Rangeley and Vinalhaven battled to 2-2 tie in double overtime.

Mt. Ararat 4, Lewiston 1

LEWISTON – Senior forward Kelsey Karkos recorded the first and last goals as Mt. Ararat soared to a 4-1 triumph over Lewiston in KVAC girls’ soccer action Saturday.

Toby Crispen collected a 30-yard direct kick for the first goal of the game to lift the spirits of the Blue Devils (0-1) early. But Karkos evened up the game 20-minutes into the second stanza for the Eagles (1-0), initiating a flurry of goals that eventually closed the door on Lewiston.

Katie Cobb made 11 saves in goal for Lewiston.
