WALTHAM, Mass. – Raytheon has announced that Sucheta Desai, a recent graduate of Edward Little High School in Auburn, has been awarded a scholarship from MathMovesU, a national initiative from Raytheon Company. Desai is one of 5,499 applicants to receive a $1,000 college scholarship and a matching grant of $1,000 for Edward Little High School. She is attending Bentley College in the fall.

MathMovesU honors students who recognize the importance of mathematics in their education, future careers and daily life.

Desai submitted an essay on how math connects to “cool” things, people and experiences, and how a grant from MathMovesU could be used to further students’ math competencies in school. Since the start of the program in late 2005, Raytheon’s MathMovesU has awarded $2 million to students, teachers and schools, nationwide.
