Attorney General Alberto Gonzales says he’s lived the “American dream,” but in fact, he’s only taken advantage of it, and left it sullied and cheapened for everyone else.
And it’s not only the American dream Gonzales has attacked by truncating our Constitution and Bill of Rights, and trashing the age-old concept of habeas corpus: it’s the universal dream of a better, more just world of accepted standards in human rights, where torture is not allowed and the Geneva Conventions are respected.
The mud Bush claims Gonzales has been dragged through is indeed of his own making.
Let us hope the next attorney general will not be someone worse.
Congress needs to get back to Washington now and end this nightmare.
