I write to commend Charles and Diane Doyon (“Pray for the innocent” Aug. 30) who are praying for the victims of child abuse and any sort of sexual predation, be that with children, adolescents or, I assume, adults.

I also applaud them for their magnanimity in holding in prayer the perpetrators of that abuse. Many in our community are not so generous.

I am disturbed, however, by the time-worn combination of homosexuality with sexual perversion and criminality. Mr. Doyon universalizes his experience of inappropriate homosexual advances and his acquaintance’s victimization to suggest that this is the way all homosexuals behave.

Should we assume that because the vast majority of pedophiles are heterosexuals that all straight people must be condemned for their sexuality?

Of course not.

Sexual abuse is about the abuse of power of one individual over another, and is not attached to sexual orientation.

Let’s pray on that.
