LOCKE MILLS – The Greenwood Historical Society will hold two fundraising events this weekend at the Locke Mills town hall.

At 7 p.m. on Friday, the organization will present a slide show by Marty Engstrom. The presentation is based on Engstrom’s book “Marty on the Mountain,” which documents the 38 years he spent as a weather observer atop Mount Washington.

“It’s hard to describe it unless you’re actually there,” said John Davis, co-president of the society, “because most of us have never gone up on the mountain during the wintertime.”

Davis said that the presentation would go on for an hour.

“He’s quite a character,” said Joyce Hathaway, secretary for the society, of Engstrom.

The event is free, but organizers are asking for donations to offset the cost of the speech and benefit the society. Refreshments will be served after the show.

From 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, the society will host a dance at the hall featuring the Richard Felt Orchestra. Hathaway said the dances take place twice a month and cost $7.
