MONMOUTH – Mary Rodgers’ beloved comic musical “Once Upon A Mattress” will wrap up The Theater At Monmouth’s season.

The 1959 play about the princess and the pea is the show that made Carol Burnett famous. Directed by Jeri Pitcher, “Once Upon A Mattress” will be staged at Cumston Hall Sept. 28 through Oct. 7.

The show will feature several central Maine favorites, a chorus of community members and professional leads. Performing will be Birdie Katz of Augusta as Queen Aggrivain, Frank Omar of Hallowell as King Sextimus the Silent, and Dennis Price of Winthrop as the Wizard.

Other local cast members: David Handley, Bree Petty and Rebecca Caron of Monmouth; Carol Griffiths, Ann-Marie Caron and Katie St. Pierre of Lewiston; Vinnie Tauber, Eryn Neptune and Andrew Tolman of Readfield; William Haley and William Beckim of Augusta; Barbara Enman and Rick O’Brien of Winthrop; Vincent Ratsavong of Turner; Rick Fayen of Starks; Sarah Jessop of Portland; Meg Richardson of Kent’s Hill; Miranda Gauvin of Farmington; and Patty Ferrentino of Hallowell.

Professional performers coming in for the show include Eliza Chetlin of Pittsburgh as Princess Winnifred, and New York actors Andrew Chartier as Sir Harry, Anna Bocknek as Lady Larkin, David Dotterer as the Minstrel and Terren Wooten Clarke as the Jester.

TAM summer company members Miranda Libkin, Will Harrell, Allison Bishop and Miranda Gauvin will also be joining the cast.

Besides Pitcher and Libkin as the choreographer, the creative team includes Marcia Gallagher, music director; Rew Tippin, set designer; Mikel McGrew, costume designer; Kristin Hayes, lighting designer; and Shannon Grimes, stage manager.

Shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29; at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30; at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4, 5 and 6; and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6-7. Tickets are $22 for adults, $18 for students and senior citizens. Group rates are available. The show is appropriate for all ages.
