Helen VanEck Holub, formerly of Auburn, has written a book of poetry and short stories titled “Guided by the Spirit,” inspired by her fairth in God. She expects a second book, “Echoes of Love,” to be published in November.
Born and raised in Auburn, Holub is the daughter of the late Harry and Helen B. Van Eck. She was educated at Lincoln Elementary and at Walton Junior High, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1951. Now living in Downers Grove, Ill., she has returned for 25th, 50th, 53rd and 55th-year class reunions.
Holub was married in 1954 and later moved to Illinois, where she and her husband raised four children. They will celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary in October. The couple have 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Holub described the 132-page “Guided by the Spirit” as a Christian, inspirational book of poetry and short stories relating to psalms in the bible. “It expresses my feelings of faith and love of the Lord, who has been with me through many trials as well as joys,” she said.
She expects “Guided by the Spirit” to be in Christian bookstores, and available through larger bookstores such as Barnes and Noble, by the end of October. The cost of the paperback published by Xulon Press: $13.99.
“Echoes of Love,” which, according to Holub, expresses the many types of love we experience, will be released through PublishAmerica.com.
Frontier Cafe’s spotlight will shine on goats
