LEWISTON – George and Helena (Boessenecker) Blais of Keene, N.H., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Fellbach, Germany, on July 9. They were married in nearby Ansbach, Germany, on Aug. 10, 1957. They met in Ansbach while Mr. Blais was serving three years in the Army.

Among the 80 people attending were their four children, along with their families, including all five grandchildren, Christine Blais Ortiz of Longboat Key, Fla., Fredrick Blais of Swanzey, N.H., Ruth Blais Thompson of Dublin, N.H., and Roxanne Blais Jack of Swanzey, N.H. Also attending from the U.S. were four close couples of the family. There were 23 people traveling from the U.S.A., two from Switzerland and 59 others were family and friends from various parts of Germany.

The four-hour reception of music, (including old German folk songs, played on accordion) songs, dance and reminiscing, was planned by the couple’s children and organized by the children’s cousin, Uli Fried, the daughter of Helena’s youngest brother from Fellbach, Germany. Mr. Blais, in his day, was an avid hockey player and a 1954 graduate of Lewiston High School.
