Tenants of one of six apartments in a four-story building at 125 Rumford Ave., watch Sunday as Rumford firefighters douse a smouldering mattress removed from the window of an apartment rented by Stan Pingree Jr. A 14-year-old Rumford boy was smoking a cigarette when he caught a bed on fire, investigating Lt. Keith Bickford said. The blaze was quickly extinguished by Rumford and Mexico firefighters.Rumford Patrolman Lawrence Winson issued a summons to the boy on charge of reckless conduct and possession of tobacco products by a minor. The boy was released to a parent and will be arraigned Dec. 10.
