Bethel walk aids hunger relief

BETHEL – The Bethel area CROP Hunger Walk was a huge success on Sept. 16. A total of 61 people walked the three miles – from ages 10 months to 88 years and from five towns.

More that $2,500 was contributed by neighbors and friends to support the hunger-fighting efforts of Church World Service, at home and around the world. The local Good Shepherd Food-Bank will receive approximately $625 to aid local people in need, and some $1,875 will make possible the global work of Church Work Service.

The funds raised in Bethel and in CROP Hunger Walks across the U.S. will make a difference in the lives of people in some 80 countries around the world.

Mary Stryker raised the most money. Jan Whitworth, Pilar Bates and Diane York, treasurer, managed the registration table. Logistics planners were Larry Engdahl, Bob Iles, Lida Iles and Walt Hatch; Caroline Gould helped pick up stragglers from the walk; and Leslie Cooley and Amy Davis helped with rest stops along the way.

Volunteering, walking and donating were Jane Chandler and Christine Trefethen, co-chairwomen.
