RUMFORD – Rumford Hospital, Elsemore Dixfield Center and Swift River Health Care are joining to offer a Women’s Breast and Cervical Health Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 27. It is an opportunity for eligible women to join the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program by making an appointment and receiving free services.

Dr. Bina Maharjan of the Central Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program will provide physical exams, including pap smears, and the Rumford Hospital mammography unit will do free mammograms.

The exams are provided free annually thereafter through the Breast and Cervical Health Program. Maharjan is a first-year resident in the Lewiston program. She has previously done medical research and decided to become a practicing family physician.

Women are being encouraged to inquire if they are eligible for the program, even if they are not able to make an appointment for that day, by calling 1-800-350-5180 and pressing number 1. A representative will help callers determine if they are eligible for the free program.

Women with questions may call Pam Bentley at Swift River, 369-1194.
