PORTLAND, Maine (AP) – A soldier from Maine has been critically wounded in a sniper attack in Iraq.

TV stations report that Bradley Buckland of Detroit was shot on Saturday and underwent surgery on Sunday in Baghdad.

Buckland had been serving with the Army in Iraq for about a year and was due to return home next month. The reports indicate the Army planned to fly Buckland to Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital on Monday.
