Worship leader

PARIS – Merry Shore will be the worship leader at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., Paris, on Sunday, Oct. 28. Her sermon topic at the 10 a.m. service will be “Eyes on the Prize.” Renee Wales will lead the Sunday school and Forest Perkins, church organist, will direct the music.

Sunday forum

PARIS – Trinity Lutheran Church, 34 Buckfield Road, Paris, will hold Sunday school at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28. Worship will be at 10:15. There will be an open forum after service to discuss church issues. It will be followed with coffee, refreshments and fellowship.

Pork supper

NORWAY – The Norway Firemen’s Relief Association will hold a roast pork supper from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Norway Fire Station. The menu will consist of roast pork, salads, vegetables, rolls, beverages and dessert. Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children under 12 and free for children under 6.

Dance lessons

WEST PARIS – Finnish dance lessons will be given at the Finnish-American Heritage Center, 8 Maple St. at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. Dances include the schottish, polka, Karensky, Raatikko and others. It is open to the public and people of all ages are welcome. For more information, call 743-5677.

Film to air

OTISFIELD – “King O’Cats,” produced and directed by Leland Faulkner of Auburn, will be shown at the Otisfield Community School at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28.

Twenty minutes long, it was produced in 2003 and premiered this summer at the Maine International Film Festival in Waterville.

It is based on an old English folk tale about a gravedigger and his wife who own a most remarkable cat. The film features a troupe of local dancers, including some from Otisfield. Several of the scenes were shot at the Bell Hill Meetinghouse and a make-believe cemetery created in a Scribner Hill field.

There will be no admission fee, and the public is welcome.

Haunted house

NORWAY – Norway Rehab and Living Center, 29 Marion Ave., will have a haunted house for children ages 11 and under from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31. For more information, call 743-7075.

Lodge supper

WOODSTOCK – A chowder and soup supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Jefferson Lodge, Route 26, Main Street. Menu will include homemade salmon, beef, fish, corn, bean soup and chili, rolls, crackers, coffee, punch, milk and gingerbread with whipped cream. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Hunter safety

OXFORD – A hunter education course will be held Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 28, 29 and 30, at Lake Thompson Fish and Game shooting range on Paine Road in East Oxford.

WATERFORD – The Rev. George Frobig reminds parishioners of the Oxford County United Parish Churches in Stoneham and North Waterford that services will be held at 10 a.m. at the North Waterford Congregational Church, UCC, located on the Five Kezars Road, beginning Sunday, Nov. 4. Choir practice will be held at 9 a.m. followed by Bible study at 9:15 a.m.

Craft fair

Spaghetti supper

DIXFIELD – The Oxford County Democrats will have a spaghetti supper starting at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, with a social hour; supper at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, Main Street. Tickets at the door are $5, and they may be reserved by calling 364-4201.

Talk on Alaska

WOODSTOCK – Edwin Howe addressed the Woodstock Historical Society about Alaska recently. He showed slides on wildlife, glaciers, fishing, businesses, the Arctic Circle and the pipeline.

Other visitors included Joan and Richard Ford and the Rev. Richard Beal. Olive Risko gave a research report on the origins of kindergarten in the U.S. Paul Billings was chosen as chairman of the board of trustees and Olive Risko as vice chairwoman. Curator Larry Billings provided decorations.

The next program will be on the Freedom Trail.
