RUMFORD – The first meeting of the regional planning committee charged with working on a possible administrative merger of four area school districts has been set for 6 p.m., Nov. 7, in Room 302 of Mountain Valley High School.

The towns and school boards in SAD 43, Rumford, SAD 21, Dixfield, SAD 44, Bethel, and Union 37, Rangeley, have been choosing representatives to sit on the board.

Although most representatives have been chosen, a few slots remain open.

Superintendent Jim Hodgkin said facilitator Bob Connors, hired by the state Department of Education, will present an overview of the process at the initial meeting.

The second meeting will likely see the election of a chairman and assignments to subcommittees.

Meetings, which are open to the public, are expected to be held at least weekly. A preliminary plan for merger must be submitted to the state by Dec. 1.
