BRIDGTON – With a little help from his board of directors, the local Chamber of Commerce director was honored by the state last month.

Mike McClellan, executive director of the Greater Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce, was given the Chamber Executive of the Year award at an annual meeting and awards dinner held by the Maine State Chamber of Commerce on Oct. 24. He was nominated by the chamber’s board of directors.

“I was pretty humbled. I was very excited,” McClellan said on hearing of the award about a month before the meeting.

McClellan has been the chamber’s director for four and a half years, and took the position after working with mental health services. He also serves as the vice present for the Maine Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

McClellan said his wife, mother-in-law, and five chamber directors and some of their spouses were at the meeting.

“We had a full table there to root for the region, which was kind of nice,” he said.

The booklet from the evening’s events describes McClellan as having a “sense of commitment and unselfish attitude.” It also praises the chamber for enhancing tourism and business prosperity in the region.

“It was a double honor, because they looked out here to the western part of the state and saw some good things happening,” McClellan said.
