LEWISTON – The “Help is Here Express” national bus will roll into the Promenade Mall on Lisbon Street at 11 a.m. Tuesday, offering information and advice for uninsured Mainers who are having trouble affording prescription medications.

The “Help is Here Express” is part of the Partnership for Prescription Assistance, an effort that has helped more than 4.4 million patients nationally and more than 17,500 in Maine find programs that provide prescription medicines for free or nearly free. The bus is staffed by specialists able to help low-income, uninsured or underinsured patients access more than 475 patient assistance programs, including more than 180 programs offered by pharmaceutical companies. There is no charge to tour the bus, talk to counselors or get prescription health information.

Since its launch in April 2005, the bus tour, sponsored by America’s pharmaceutical research companies, has visited all 50 states and more than 1,500 cities to raise awareness about patient assistance programs.

The bus will remain at the Promenade Mall until 1 p.m., leaving to make an appearance in Waterville later in the day.
