MEXICO – Two sport-utility vehicles collided head-on Sunday, destroying both vehicles and causing minor injuries to the drivers.
Police Sgt. Roy Hodsdon said Virgil Toothaker, no age available, of Livermore Falls, was driving his 2002 Ford Explorer west on Route 2 near Naples Packing Co. when he apparently experienced a medical problem, causing him to veer into the oncoming path of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee driven by William Hughes, no age available, of Oquossoc, who was traveling east.
Toothaker was flown by medical helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was treated and released.
Hughes was taken by Med-Care Ambulance to Rumford Hospital where he was treated for broken wrists, Hodsdon said.
State Police re-created the accident. Hodsdon was assisted by officer Chuck Beale.
