AUBURN – Wyman & Simpson Inc., contractors on the South Bridge/Main Street Bridge replacement project, have completed their work. The bridge was reopened to traffic on Tuesday. Crews will remain in the area through the week to clear the work site, according to the Maine Turnpike Authority.

In January, the bridge was struck by a truck exceeding the posted height limit, causing major damage to the bridge, an MTA official said.

The new bridge has been raised from its previous height of 14 feet, 2 inches above the road to modern highway standards of 16 feet, 6 inches, according to the MTA.
