PERU – Selectmen will continue to be acting road commissioner until one is elected in June.
Members on Tuesday night decided to select a foreman to supervise the two-person road crew and have the foreman report to them.
They held an executive session to discuss the applicants for the road crew and foreman and decided on several people they will contact, Selectman Jim Pulsifer said.
Chairman Bill Scott, who has been overseeing the road crew, said he canceled the road shoulder work pending a report on town finances. He said the sand and salt stocks are ready for use.
Pulsifer thanked Scott for the work he has been doing with the road crew since former Road Commissioner David Gammon resigned in September.
Voters decided Nov. 5 to keep the road commissioner’s job an elected position rather than having selectmen appoint someone. Most of the board favored having an appointed position to avoid being without a commissioner when one resigns before the term is up.
Also Tuesday, the board approved the warrant for the Dec. 10 town meeting. Among the decisions is a vote on a six-month budget – Jan. 1 to June 30, 2008 – as the town switches its fiscal year to coincide with the school system. Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m.
A public hearing on the warrant will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8.
Selectman Rodney Jamison resigned as chairman of the committee deciding the future of the old Peru school building. The board will choose his successor.
