WEST PARIS – To prepare for the 2008 budget, selectmen late last week confirmed the appointment of a five-member budget committee. Its members played a key role in developing the 2007 budget.

They are Lisa Henderson, Sylvia McCann, Dale Piirainen, Dian Rainey and George Twine.

Town Manager John White said he is urging department heads and social service organizations to submit budget requests as soon as possible. The deadline is Dec. 15.

The budget committee and selectmen will begin meeting as early in December as possible.

In other business, selectmen approved closing the town office for the long Thanksgiving holiday and decided to move their regular Thursday meeting to Nov. 21 at 3 p.m.

White said he is planning to talk with selectmen in Greenwood and Woodstock to see if they would be interested in having periodic joint meetings to discuss issues or mutual interest.

“I feel this might be good for all of us as we hear more about the push for regionalization.”
