JAY – A man wanted by Lewiston police on a theft charge surrendered Wednesday afternoon to the police chief in Jay.

Lucas Fisher, 24, called police Chief Larry White Sr. and said he wanted to turn himself in. Fisher wanted to turn himself over to the chief because the two have known each other since Fisher was 13 years old, White said later in the day.

Fisher went to the Jay police station and submitted to arrest. He was taken to the Franklin County Jail in Farmington.

Fisher, whose last known address is 55 Summer St. in Lewiston, was one of three suspects featured last week on WGME’s Fugitive Files.

White said Fisher told him he did not know he was wanted until the search for him was aired on the program Nov. 5.

Police in Lewiston said Fisher had tentatively agreed to surrender last week. However, it wasn’t until Wednesday that he called White to make arrangements to give up, saying he trusted the Jay police chief.

In Lewiston, Fisher was wanted on charges of theft by receiving stolen property and violating conditions of an earlier release from jail.

He has a previous criminal history that includes a pair of drunken driving convictions and convictions for escape, disorderly conduct and the receiving stolen property charge for which he was wanted.
