LEWISTON – L/A Arts Gallery 5 is delighted to announce the opening of Red and Green, a special juried exhibit of unique gifts for just about everyone on your holiday list from jewelry, paintings and pottery to sculpture, photography and textile art. The exhibit will run through Saturday, Dec. 22.

Susan Carlson is one of the new artists exhibiting at Gallery 5. Susan’s quilted artwork is painterly and imaginative. Her layering/collage method utilizes a wide variety of fabrics in bold colors. “Walkabout” has an Australian theme that immediately pulls your into the fabric collage. “I was especially drawn to rich, earthy colors for the depiction of this stick insect,” explains Carlson.

Photographer John Matt Dorn is also new to Gallery 5. His work shows his interest in a wide range of subjects, including artistic images, nature photography and candid portraiture. “My belief is that a good photograph should be the thing itself, both an act of submission to the beauty around us and an attempt to capture that beauty for all to see. The best photographs are simple.” Dorn’s “Vertivert” is an exquisite photo of the eye of a mallard in which you can see the reflection of the Chicago skyline.

Something new for Red and Green are Artist Days, when featured artists will have additional small items exhibited in Gallery 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artist Days are: Friday, Nov. 23, Saturdays, Nov. 24, Dec. 1, Dec, 15, and Dec. 22.

L/A Arts Gallery 5 is at Lyceum Hall, 49 Lisbon St., Lewiston, and is open to the public Tuesday and Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Thursday and Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
