LEWISTON – A local youth group is accepting entries in a holiday home decorating contest to raise money for an electronic message board at Lewiston High School.

The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council will choose 20 submissions at random and pick the “most creative holiday outside home decorating” entry from among those.

“Holiday decorating is typical this time of year, and we thought a bit of competitive spirit would be a fun-filled way of further beautifying our community throughout the month of December,” said Luke Jensen, chairman of the youth council.

Registration for the home decorating contest is $5, and proceeds will go toward the youth council’s effort – in partnership with the Lewiston School Department – to raise money for a sign at the entrance of the high school on East Avenue.

The group needs to raise about $3,000 more for an electronic sign to communicate school, community and Youth Advisory Council events and activities to passersby.

To register for the “Creative Holiday Outside Home Decorating Contest,” send a brief description of what your home outside decorating theme will entail and a $5 check payable to the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council, c/o Luke Jensen, Lewiston City Hall, 27 Pine St., Lewiston, ME 04240. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, Dec. 12. Those selected for the 20 random entries will be notified by Dec. 14.
