PORTLAND – The Choral Art Society has introduced a preview concert for its annual holiday concert “Christmas at the Cathedral.” Admission to the preview concert is $10 per person, with all tickets sold at the door only. The preview concert will begin at noon Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 317 Congress St.

The program will feature organist Dan Moore and the Portland Brass Quintet with traditional seasonal music, a cappella motets and music for chorus, organ and brass. “Christmas at the Cathedral” is well known for its majestic opening processional, “Personent Hodie,” an arrangement of a Renaissance tune for brass and organ, and for its emotive candlelit finale.

This year, the performance will include a specially commissioned brass and choral arrangement from Handel’s “Messiah.”

Three additional performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1; and at 2:30 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.

Tickets purchased in advance for the Dec. 1-2 performances are $15/20 each and are available through the society’s box office, 828-0043. For more information on other ticket outlets, visit www.choralart.org.
