PERU – Selectmen recently accepted the resignation of Wayne Putnam as the town’s licensed plumbing inspector. Putnam said a disability forced him to give up the job.

Selectmen’s Secretary Kathy Hussey said Code Enforcement Officer Jack Plumley had expressed interest in the position. The board will ask Plumley to attend the next meeting to discuss the possibility of serving as both CEO and plumbing inspector. Plumley is partially certified, according to Hussey, and will plan to take the remainder of his courses this winter.

In other matters, the board voted to waive the 30-day waiting period for health insurance for Richard Vaughn as a new road employee. Vaughn has been employed by the school and his insurance covers him until Dec. 1.

The board also voted to authorize any town employee who is able to leave his work, and is a volunteer firefighter, to go on any fire call. This was done at the request of Fire Chief Bill Hussey.

The board reviewed a postcard that will be mailed to all property owners informing them that in January they will receive a tax bill for the first half of 2008. The bill will be due in February. In July, property owners will receive a tax bill for the period covering July 1 to June 30, 2009. The change in billing is due to Peru’s new fiscal year being July 1 through June 30.

The board also accepted the resignation of Hugh Rowley from the Planning Board. There are now vacancies on the Planning Board, Finance Committee and the School Committee.

Finally, the board went into executive session to interview a road foreman.
