SABATTUS – The Post Office at 4 Middle Road will hold a “passport day” in the lobby from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, to help people get the document necessary for international travel.

Changes in federal law require any person traveling to destinations outside the United States, including Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean, to have a passport.

Applicants need to bring original copies of their birth certificates (with a raised seal) and proof of identity. Children under 14 require both parents to be present and need a long-form birth certificate.

Postal staff will have a camera available for passport photos for $15. Passport fees are $67 ($52 for children under 16), made payable to the Department of State, and $30, made payable to the U.S. Postal Service.

Only cash or checks can be accepted. Processing takes 6 to 8 weeks and there will be expedited mailing services available if needed. Passports are valid for 10 years (or 5 years if under age 16). For more information, call the Sabattus Post Office at (207) 375-4251.
