October and early November’s warm temperatures let Twin Cities crews get ahead on their spring road work.

In Auburn, crews will be winding down work on Shepley Street and in New Auburn in the next week or so.

“We did get a bit more work done on Shepley Street than anticipated, but mostly we accomplished just what we wanted,” said Eric Labelle, Auburn’s community services coordinator. “We wanted to get the majority of the work done this fall and button things up for a season to let ground settle down for the season, before we do the final paving next spring.”

Road paving projects depend on how late in the season asphalt plants continue working.

“As long as the temperatures stay generally above 40 degrees, the plants stay open,” Labelle said. “The longer they stay open, the more time we have to get work done.”

In New Auburn, crews have been installing new sidewalks and curbs along 4th Street. Labelle said work should wrap in the next week. Crews will continue building new sidewalks downtown and around New Auburn next spring.

In Lewiston, crews expect to put away their road pavement equipment this weekend.

“We’re expecting a real cold snap, so that will pretty much wrap that work up,” said Wes Enman, Lewiston engineering technician.

Crews are completing some curb installations on Sabattus Street near Golder Road and along Rachel Boulevard.

“But this pretty much is the last week,” he said. “As far as street paving goes, we’ve about spent our budget so we had to wind down anyway.”

Crews will be back working on paving projects next May, Enman said.
