PARIS – There will be a little something extra this year for train buffs attending the annual Trees & Trains event at the McLaughlin Garden.
The Western Maine Art Group will exhibit 11 pieces of original art representing trains and train stations in the parlor of the McLaughlin Garden’s historic house. The pieces range from oils, watercolors and acrylics to a lithograph of a Harrison Bird Brown engraving. The majority of pieces are from the 1970s, painted by Western Maine Art Group members. The pieces depict numerous local train stations, including Norway, Paris and Locke Mills. The WMAG train art is part of a new private fine arts collection given to the WMAG last spring through a bequest of the late Richard G. Durnin of North Norway.
The Maine Garden Railway Society will transform the barn at the McLaughlin Garden into a world of model train dioramas and decorated Christmas trees. In addition, the historic house will be decorated in the theme of “Christmas Around the World.”
The Trees & Trains event will run Dec. 6, 7, 8 and 9 at the McLaughlin Garden at 97 Main St.
