RUMFORD – Oxford County commissioners will meet at the Municipal Building at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.

It will be a first for this town and represents a change in philosophy by commissioners.

They have traditionally held virtually all their meetings in the Oxford County building in Paris, the county seat, at 9 a.m. on the first Tuesday of the month.

To get out to areas they represent, commissioners decided to hold meetings in Rumford and Fryeburg, beginning at 5 p.m. to enhance public attendance. Remaining meetings will be held at the county building.

Other meetings in Rumford will be April 1, July 1 and Oct. 7; in Fryeburg, Feb. 5, May 6, Aug. 5 and Dec. 2.

Commissioner David Duguay of Byron represents the northern part of the county. Commissioner Steve Merrill of Norway represents the southern part of the county, and Commissioner Caldwell Jackson of Oxford represents the central section.

Tuesday’s agenda includes a homeland security grant discussion with the county’s Emergency Management director, Scott Parker, and an executive session with Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant. Other items include the 2008 budget, county charter, health insurance, and jail information.

The public meeting will be held in the Municipal Auditorium.
